Play with Feelings

For every musician, in whatever genre, it is always important to play with feelings. As for singers, it is the same too, to sing with feelings. As a music person myself, I can identify with what jazz musicians and other musicians suggest, play with feelings. It is very important to perform with feelings because it is through it that the audience can connect with the performer, it is through it that the audience can feel whatever the performer is performing on stage. Performing with feelings is what sets apart a real performer from just a stage performer. For all I know, a simple performer can just perform on stage and not touch his audience’s heart but a true performer can do both, perform and touch.
Jazz Musician Brains are Scanned

I read one interesting article that says that jazz musicians unconsciously switch off regions of their brain that is involved in self-censorship while firing up the area linked to self-expression. This was according to the studies done by Johns Hopkins University and the National Institute on Deafness and Other Communications Disorders wherein they used fMRI to scan the brains of jazz musicians as they play a specially-designed piano keyboard. Scientists have found out that the region of the brain called dorsolateral prefrontal cortex slows down its activity during improvisation. This part of the brain is linked to planned actions or self-censoring and shutting down this part, according to Limb, could lead to lowered inhibitions.
Jazz Music and Other Things

Every time I look for some news about jazz music I always come across other things like cars and basketball. That proves that Jazz is really famous not only in music but also in basketball because of the team Utah Jazz and in cars because of the famous car Honda Jazz. And that is not all! While I was doing this entry I searched more about the word ‘jazz’ and found out that there is an airline that’s named Air Canada Jazz and then there is also a film entitled Jazz. Whew! There is too much ‘jazz’ in the world.

A Lot More to Know…

I was thinking that maybe I need to learn a lot more things about jazz. The truth is I am not really a fan of the music genre. I just happen to know some and those some, I like. But right now, I’m kind of feeling that there is more to jazz music than the things that I know and the things that I hear. Though our world today is very dominated by the pop music scene I guess it still pays to go back to the original music, the music that was loved and is still loved by our parents and grandparents. I can actually hear my parents and other relatives sometimes talking about the type of music that they have back then. And hearing such things make me want to go back too and learn more about it.
What a Wonderful World

What a wonderful world is actually one of my favorite jazz songs ever. I love the way Louis Armstrong sang it, very sweet and mild. And the huskiness of his voice suits the melody and the instruments in the background. My heart feels so warm right now just thinking about this song, its melody and lyrics. And though I am not actually listening to it right now, I can hear it playing. I can hear Louis Armstrong’s great and cold voice, singing each word with perfection and feelings.
It’s a good thing that this song has so much positivity in it. Maybe that is the reason I like it that much. It is so full of positive thoughts and it says how wonderful our world really is.
Saxophone Syndrome

Why is it that all I ever remember when I hear jazz music is a saxophone? It is maybe because I have incorporated it with jazz music ever since I was young. I don’t actually know why but that’s all I can think of about jazz music. But when I think of it, it is not really disturbing after all because I actually love the sound of the saxophone. I personally think that it produces a unique sound that can be identified as its own. I also find its music as very sweet to the ears and very relaxing. I can actually fall asleep to Kenny G’s music.
Now, I’m really having this saxophone syndrome. All I can picture in my mind right now is the saxophone and the music that I hear, Kenny G music.
Microsoft Research’s MySong automatically chooses chords to play with vocals

My Song was presented at Microsoft Research paper of CHI 2008 , which is an application that chooses chords to accompany melodies which a user sings into a microscope. By adjusting the “happy factor” and “jazz factor” sliders you can easily change the chords. This was introduced automatically to choose
Chords to accompany vocal melody, allowing a user with no musical training to rap[idly create accompanied music.
